About M. H. Pathfinder (a.k.a. Michael Hovey)

My experiental background is in philosophy, the arts, researching geopolitical news and events, and other diverse endeavors.  I am a technical consultant and support source on computers, operating systems and software, for which you can find me at www.mhpathfinder.com.  I am a strong advocate for free and open source operating systems and software.  I’m usually known as  Michael Hovey.  M.H. Pathfinder is my pen and business name.  Whatever my names, I am me, a fellow dual being of cosmic and human nature.

In America, we like to ask each other, “What do you do?”  In answer to this question, I spend four days per week in research, web publishing and in an attempt to help my fellow human beings find reliable sources for news and information, and for mutual understanding of each other, regardless of our affiliations and backgrounds.  For three days, I earn a modicum of money to augment my Teamster pension, by helping a friend install and repair electronic entry access systems, camera and DVR systems, programming and training people in the use of the appropriate software for the above systems.

Academically, I hold a bachelors degree, summa cum laude, in human behavior; and a masters degree, with honors, in counseling psychology, both from San Diego based National University.  I worked for five years as a marriage and family therapist intern in southern California, in both private practice and at Casa Youth Shelter in Los Alamitos, CA (www.casayouthshelter.org).  I’ve run anger management groups, facilitated an art therapy group for teens, and counseled many adolescents and their families.

What I did: All during this time, I worked as a grocery warehouse manager for a southern California retail grocery chain, but retired due to a partial disability, four years ago, after thirty-four years of work.

During the 1980s, I was working in the visual arts, producing works of charcoal and chalk, pen and ink, and acrylic on canvas.

During the 1990s, I immersed myself into the hobby of taking computers apart, upgrading just enough to stay behind the cutting edge of the exploding computer hardware and software technology.  Consequently, I have much experience and expertise in computers and software, with some additional understanding of networks.  I have twenty-two years of Internet experience and helping others navigate through the seemingly infinite universe of online information and communication resources.

I am fifty-seven years of age, as of this writing in 2010, married to a brilliant psychologist since 1993, father of four adult children, grandfather of two.
